Raditude (Weezer) (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version) – Weezer is one of the most popular bands to have lingered around after the post grunge era. Since their triumphant comeback in 2001 Rivers and the boys have really been working on the element of longevity. Experimenting with new sounds and re-vamping their old sound to make sure their fans keep listnening and they can reach greatness. This past decade Weezer has graced us with a whopping 5 albums, but unfortunally the feedback has been bouncing all over the place. no one really knows if they are getting better or worse. Others are trashing Weezer because their albums have not reached Blue or Pinkerton status. Continue reading Raditude (Weezer) (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version)

I Told You I Was Freaky (Flight Of The Conchords) – Jemaine and Bret are geniuses. Enough said. Their music seriously is so witty and smart and it’s impossible not to fall in love with it and them. These two guys are hilarious, and while this album may not hold a candle to the previous, self-titled album it’s far better than anything else out there and well worth the investment. Brand New Eyes – Evolution is a dangerous thing in the music business when you’ve already got a good thing going. Change is tampering with exceptional achievement in Paramore’s case, but what strikes me about ‘Brand New Eyes’ is that it seems the band wasn’t at all influenced by the raging success and commercialism of `Riot!’. They made the album they wanted to make, and I think striving for quality over fame makes this band special and makes this album exceptional.

Joy – Joy is fantastic album and a great return to form. It takes the best elements of their earlier albums, but polishes the rough edges and makes for perhaps their most approachable album. It has the feel of their live performances, but the refined quality of a studio. The jam songs have a clear direction and sense of purpose unlike the songs found on Under-mind or Round Room.

The Blueprint 3 – Death to all the B.S. out here. Beat, lyrics, substance what more can you ask for. Those who are not feeling this are detached from what hip-hop is. This is a instant classic, Jay spread is wings wide with this one. Every song has substance and he kills it lyrically. He brought the A.I take out the crates with “practice, we talkin bout practice”, what we talkin bout.

The Complete Billie Holiday – There are many rehearsal cuts in this box set, which may not be of interest to all listeners. Plus, there are many live performances recorded with less than ideal equipment. That said, this is THE collection for those of us who love Billie’s 1950s work. It’s all here, and it’s all wonderful – those who agree with Miles Davis that Lady Day’s chief attribute during this decade was her rhythmic flexibility will be more than satisfied, and those who love her expressiveness will be more than amply rewarded.
