Rollerblade Solstice Womens Figure Ice Skates – I’m a recreational ice skater and I really like these skates. I’ve had them for almost a month and skated in them ten times. I wanted to buy my own skates because I was tired of skating on rental skates’ inconsistent edges. I also wanted a skate that didn’t look like the white leather skates that serious figure skaters wear. This pair fit the bill at a great price. The outside surface is vinyl, and they’re well padded with good ankle support. (I don’t do spins or jumps, so I don’t know if they’d be appropriate for that.) The white parts are a bit pearlized; the gray parts are a little shiny, and the blue stripes are a bit more matte. The laces seem to be a little short to use all three speedhooks; they’re fine with two speedhooks and that’s plenty of ankle support for the forward crossovers and the backward skating I’ve started to do. The blades are riveted on, as is to be expected with skates at this level. The toe picks are of the less-aggressive, recreational variety, compared to serious figure skates. The skates come with temporary blade covers; don’t expect to use these as blade guards. The factory edges were better than some of the rental skates I’ve used, but not all that sharp. They’re good enough to skate on, though. I haven’t had them sharpened yet. While I was looking for skates, I tried on a pair of Riedell 625 skates. Those had sharper factory edges. I always wore size 9 rental skates, and I bought a size 9 in these, too. I would’ve bought a size 9 for the Riedell ones, if I’d gotten those. (I didn’t buy the Riedell skates because the local store didn’t have them in my size. They had size 8, which fit, but barely, and I wanted a larger size.
